On 8th May 2023, I had the opportunity to visit the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) located in IICT in Hyderabad. The primary purpose of my visit was to attend an exhibition organized by CCMB aimed at raising awareness about genetic disorders- the gene health connects. The exhibition served as an educational platform, shedding light on the details of genetic disorders and the ground breaking research being conducted in the field of genetics.

The exhibition began by providing a comprehensive introduction to genetic disorders. It offered a clear definition of genetic disorders, explaining how they result in abnormalities or mutations in an individual's DNA. After refreshing our knowledge regarding genetics by all the dignitaries, the director general of CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) - Dr. N. Kalaiselvi inaugurated the gene health connect program through the virtual platform. Then we were allowed to explore the mobile science exhibition set up to spread awareness – the gene health.

The exhibition had interactive demonstrations that allowed visitors to experience the scientific concepts first hand. There were interactive models illustrating the structure of DNA, showcasing how genetic mutations can lead to various disorders, how this mutation can be helpful or harmful, and what causes mutation in the first place. Visitors could manipulate the models, deepening their understanding of the genetic code and its significance in determining our traits and health.

The visit to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology's exhibition on spreading awareness regarding genetic disorders was an enlightening and enriching experience. The exhibition successfully achieved its objective of spreading awareness about genetic disorders, providing a platform for education, dialogue and by combining interactive exhibits, research insights, CCMB effectively conveyed the significance of genetic research and the potential for advancements in diagnosing, treating, and preventing genetic disorders. This visit left me with a lasting impression, instilling a sense of curiosity and a greater appreciation for the profound impact of genetics on human health.

I am grateful to my school for giving me an opportunity to attend the enriching session.

Thank you.
